Frequently Asked Questions

What is Answers to the ACS?

Answers to the ACS is an e-book series that addresses every element in the Airman Certification Standards (ACS) for the practical test/checkride for a particular pilot certificate or rating. These are professionally-developed and fully-sourced technical references that get you the right answer to each element in the ACS. You can view all Answers to the ACS e-books in our app.

What does the Answers to the App do?

Our app contains all Answers to the ACS books and supplementary documents in libraries: Private, Instrument, and Commercial. You can subscribe to any individual library or all libraries. For example, if you are student pilot training towards private, subscribe to the Private Pilot Library. If you are a CFI or DPE, you can subscribe to all three libraries as a reference.

In addition to our books, you can also view all of the sources that we reference in the app, receive messages regarding a plethora of updates, and enjoy features such as our Checkride Wizard - a feature that sends you scheduled updates leading up to your checkride to make sure you’ve done everything you need to do.

At what point in training should I begin using Answers to the ACS?

For Private Pilot applicants, after first solo when starting cross-country training. Detailed procedures are provided for obtaining a weather briefing and planning a cross-country flight. This will help you save time and money on ground school. After this, preparation for the checkride begins and the remainder of the book should be studied.

For Instrument and Commercial Pilot applicants, before training even begins. This will allow you to get ahead of the game and be ready to go once you do start training.

How should I use Answers to the ACS?

“An element a day keeps the pink slip away.” The Airman Certification Standards demands a significant breadth and depth of knowledge. Answers to the ACS keeps pace with this, but it will take time for you to study and get the most out of it. As a result, study a small amount on a regular basis - one element a day. Fight temptation and do not cram!

Is Answers to the ACS available for non-Apple devices like Android or PC?

At this time, unfortunately, no. Apple devices were selected as the launch platform for Answers to the ACS due to the fact that most pilots use iPads as their electronic flight bag (EFB). There are no plans yet to move to non-Apple devices, but this will be considered in the future based on demand.

Is Answers to the ACS available in print?

It is not, and there are no plans to make print versions due to the highly dynamic information it contains that must be updated frequently.
